I couldn’t ask for anything more.

In high school I knew I was going to serve my country. I have a family history of military service. I chose the Navy because of the career opportunities and the chance to see the world.
There are a number of things I really like about the Navy. I receive a steady paycheck. Health insurance for my family doesn’t cost me anything. In fact, when my son was born prematurely a few years ago, the hospital bill came to $60,000. I didn’t have to pay a dime. My family and I live in base housing, and it costs us nothing.
As for my career, being a Sonar Technician, every day there’s a new challenge and I’m always learning something. There’s also the travel - I have been to 25 countries. Visiting those countries makes me appreciate what a lot of people take for granted in the United States.
Being on smaller ships like frigates and destroyers, you develop some pretty strong bonds. You look out for each other. You provide help and support. Basically, you become a tight-knit community. My mom is really proud of me. She tells everyone I’m in the Navy.
