Skills and Training
The Navy provides the most comprehensive training available in the science field. In the nuclear field, training includes college-level classes in physics, chemistry, mathematics, electrical engineering, and thermodynamics. Nuclear engineering training may be available in nuclear power-plant design, construction, instrumentation, and operation. Benefits for people in the nuclear field may include a signing bonus of up to $60,000, excellent pay, advancement, and promotion potential. Special duty pay is available to those who volunteer and are selected to serve on nuclear submarines. In the field of meteorology, training includes the study of weather and the ocean.
