Supporting the decision of those who choose to serve in the Navy Reserve is required of civilian employers by law, but the goal is for each situation to be about more than just compliance. Here you will find resources that can help both Reservists and employers better understand each other's rights, obligations and challenges. And find ways to show that the appreciation goes both ways.
Reserve service requires a certain degree of planning, flexibility and responsible communication on the part of Reservists and their employers. But the benefits generally far outweigh the obstacles.
Advanced training. Educational development. Professional certifications. Demonstrated leadership and teamwork. These are the kinds of things that add up to unrivaled experience. And these are all Reservist attributes that consistently provide employers with good reason to value the positives that come out of hiring or employing a Reservist. And here's something that both Reservists and employers should know: The Navy Reserve offers flexible drilling options to help make service obligations easier to schedule and fulfill.
The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) is a federal law that all Reservists and employers should be aware of. It helps ensure that military servicemembers and veterans are:
• Not disadvantaged in their civilian careers because of their service
• Promptly reemployed in their civilian jobs upon their return from duty
• Not discriminated against in employment based on past, present or future military service

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense (DoD) organization that was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve component members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment.

The Line of Duty (LOD) program provides benefits for Reserve members who sustain or aggravate injuries, illnesses or diseases while in a duty status.
Some of these benefits include lost wages from your civilian job, medical and dental care in some cases, and referrals to other benefit programs as needed.
It is very important to stay in contact with your Navy Operations Support Center medical department representative while participating in the LOD program.
Be sure to submit any medical documentation, civilian lost wages documents or any other requested documents in a timely manner in order to receive your benefits.
