Good nutrition leads to good health. It’s a universal principle that’s especially intriguing for dietitians serving their country in the U.S. Navy. These experts routinely innovate ways to help maintain the health of thousands of Sailors, Marines and patients with specific nutrition needs.

Job Description

Join approximately 34 Navy Dietitians who are almost all stationed in hospitals throughout the United States and overseas. Provide inpatient and outpatient medical nutrition therapy, nutrition counseling and education, and food service management. Take on general nutrition education and wellness programs for servicemembers and their families. Also participate in field and shipboard patient care and food service operations.

Navy Dietitians possess requisite skills to function as entry-level clinical dietitians in:

  • Nutrition assessment
  • Medical record documentation
  • Medical nutrition therapy
  • The ability to teach in a class setting for health promotion and/or disease management

After initial clinical assignments, Navy Dietitians usually assume more supervisory clinical or food service administration responsibilities.

Enjoy considerable independence and freedom when selecting and developing patient education materials to meet the needs of the patient population, or in clinic management. While food service operations have standards and controls similar to other hospitals, innovation is encouraged along with industry benchmarking and best practices.
