There are many different paths to receiving your commission as an Officer. This tool will help you explore each avenue and show you which educational and financial assistance programs are available to you and which ones you may be qualified for.

Begin by choosing your current level of education. Next choose the Officer career you are interested in. Click on the “Your Career Plan” button to see which education and financial assistance programs are available to you.
Your career as an Officer may look like this:
- As a college graduate, you begin your career as an Ensign.
- After two years you may be eligible for promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade.
- Serve another two years and you may be eligible for promotion to Lieutenant.
- After nine to eleven years of service, you may be eligible for promotion to Lieutenant Commander.
- After 15 to 17 years of service, you may be eligible for promotion to Commander.
- After 21 to 23 years of service, you may be eligible for promotion to Captain.
