What You Should Know

You may not know it but your recruiter has responsibilities to you, like helping your family while you’re transitioning into the Navy. You also have responsibilities to your recruiter, such as maintaining or improving your physical conditioning. Find out about the responsibilities you and your recruiter have to each other.

What Your Recruiter Can and Can’t Do For You

Your Recruiter Can:

  • Outline a plan for you to reach your goals, based on your interests and experience
  • Help you gather documents and other items required when you go through the Military Entry Processing Station (MEPS)
  • Provide advice and assistance for your family while you’re transitioning to Navy life
  • Give you information about the Navy’s referral program that could put more money in your pocket once you’re activated, while you’re in the Delayed Entry Program (DEP)
  • Provide training to prepare you for Recruit Training
  • Help guide you while you’re in the DEP.

Your Recruiter Can’t:

  • Force you to sign anything
  • Guarantee you a particular career or steer you toward one
  • Promise that you will be stationed aboard a particular ship or at a certain base
  • Waive any of the requirements to get you into the Navy
