Aircraft
Whether carrier-based or shore-based, a jet, plane, helicopter or trainer, America’s Navy has the most technologically advanced aircraft in the world. With a mission to protect and serve those at sea and on the ground, Navy aircraft are flown and maintained by flight crews who understand the value of precision.
Navy aircraft handle a wide range of missions, including flying combat operations, ferrying troops and supplies to needed areas or providing a much-needed lifeline for humanitarian efforts.
Air wings bring together a crew of 2,500+ people who are on hand during all major overseas deployments and for operational training. Flight deck coordination is critical to crews that can launch two planes at a time and land one every 37 seconds in daytime and every minute at night.
Typically, an air wing consists of:
- 14 F/A-18E/F Super Hornets
- 36 F/A-18C Hornets
- Four E-2C Hawkeyes
- Four EA-18G Growlers
- Six SH-60R and two CH-60 Seahawk helicopters
- Two C-2A Greyhounds
Whether used as an early-warning system, threat deterrence or strike force, Navy planes and jets utilize advanced electronics, computerized sensors and threat-analysis equipment, and all-weather capabilities to put the “forward” in a forward-deployed, global presence. read on Planes
Whether transporting clean water and relief supplies into an earthquake-ravaged nation, performing medical evacuations to a carrier, moving supplies between a carrier and support ship, or deploying a torpedo against an enemy submarine, helicopters in America’s Navy are put to good use around the clock and around the globe.
Regardless of the mission, each utilizes state-of-the-art computer, sonar, radar and air-to-ground weapon technology. read on Helicopters
